the scissor-tailed flycatcher is a member of the kingbird family that is native to north and central america. the flycatcher is one of only four north american birds with tail feathers longer than the rest of the birds’ body; their unusually long tail has earned them the nickname ‘texas bird-of-paradise’. flycatchers feed off of insects, mainly caught in flight, along with berries.
that’s great to hear! you’re super welcome. most of my followers are from North America, so North American birds tend to get less attention; but honestly, this started as a no-pressure fun blog for me, so ive tried to focus more on birds that i like regardless of how well they’re received. I Love wading birds, ill have to post some more !
there was a vulture on the sidewalk at the mall today. i hope he bought whatever he needed
a rare closeup of a black swift, found throughout north america and small parts of south america. swifts are rarely seen up close; they spend more of their life in air than any other species of bird – they eat, drink, mate and sleep while in flight. they are incapable of perching like other birds; they must cling to vertical surfaces.
