WATCH: We humans aren’t the only ones who like to dance to the soothing sounds of the violin. Pairi Daiza zoo in Belgium invited violinists to rehearse in front of these elephants.

oh my god

hard to watch with all the tears falling out of my eyes

Hey yeah this is a nice concept but this isnt as nice as it may seem

-the elephants arent dancing. no animal naturally dances, chances are it has to be taught how to “dance”

-the elephants are actually swaying, a sign of stress and boredom often seen in captive wild animals

-that enclosure is wayyyyy too small for four elephants. Like incredibly small, they probably only have enough room to turn around

-no, the elephant is not “conducting”, again that movement is a sign of stress and boredom

Please stop anthropomorphising (giving human traits to animals) animals. I know its cute and a nice thought but it can actually be harmful to the animals as it can stop people from recognizing actual problems and properly observing animal behavior.

I’ve got good news for you! Indian elephants are known to be able to dance to music and enjoy doing so.

Also it kinda looks like that’s just a small portion of the enclosure and the elephants are just gathering there, but I don’t know the zoo personally so I can’t confirm. However looking at the website they have a big enclosure and plenty of enrichment.

elephants, along with parrots and some primates, are all capable of ‘dancing’ the way we describe dancing, of their own accord. parrots have about the rhythm keeping ability of a toddler, but that doesn’t stop them from trying!
