

the crested duck is a domestic duck breed thought to have originated in the east indies. crested ducks appear similar at first to the common pekin duck breed, but have a distinctive crest on the head. they are typically seen in white, but can be seen in other colors, such as blue, wild-type and black (typically, only white and black are accepted in shows). the ‘crested’ gene can be lethal; if both parents show the gene, around 25% of offspring will be deformed and die, likely before hatching.
