what’s your opinion on brood parasites like the cowbird? I honestly think it’s pretty dang cool that they evolved to be anti-parenting assholes

while i feel sad for babies/eggs that are pushed out by nest parasites, it is a pretty awesome thing! i have a pair of cowbirds who visit my feeder and they’re very charming.

please, can napoleon be birb of the day? like, hes a friggin loser deluxe, but he turned ten months today and I made this overview (im one of those nerds who make “see how much you’ve grown”-photo albums for their pets) and im sorta proud how far he’s come?

AWWW! congrats napoleon! very proud of you!

Hi, um, can you help me identify a bird? I couldn’t take a picture, but I saw a black bird (which I don’t know if it was a crow) with feathers that shone a really pretty blue and it had white eyes. I live in Texas right next to New Mexico, by the way. I know it’s not a lot to go by, so I understand if you can’t help. Thank you.

i think your acquaintance may have been the beautiful brewer’s blackbird!

(this is a very sad ask so theres no need to read if you do not want to, I just wanted to tell someone) So I’m a vet tech, and I go into the clinic on sundays when we’re closed to take care of all the animals. Today there was a canary who was pretty much already on his way out, I took him out of the incubator and held him next to the window in the sunshine and then he passed in my hands. I started bawling, but honestly I was really glad I was able to be there for him.

i’m so sorry to hear that 😦 im glad he wasn’t alone when he passed. that must be a very hard job.

It would be cool to see a post highlighting vibrantly colored starling species if you haven’t already in the past! Most people just think of European starlings (who are also gorgeous and shimmery), but there’s a lot of more exotic ones out there with great bursts of color.

ive posted some starlings like the violet backed starling and blue eared starling before, but i love them and would be happy to do more!
