bird of the day: bald parrot

(image sources: x, x)

sometimes known as the orange-headed parrot, the bald parrot is native to the Amazon. they are naturally bald; it’s unknown why the exact evolutionary reasoning for this is. they were once believed to be juvenile vulturine parrots (sometimes known as pascal’s parrots), who feature a similar featherless face, until it was discovered they were a separate species. these are the only two parrots of the world with naturally bald heads. the bald parrot is near threatened due to unfortunate habitat loss.

i’m going to start making posts involving “the bird of the day”! these will be different from “today’s bird” as they won’t be submissions or photos I’ve taken – it will be species profiles of birds I find interesting, just for the sake of spreading more information about them. they will be posted here, just under “bird of the day” instead of “today’s bird”. feel free to submit suggestions for bird of the day 🙂
