What?

I’m pretty perplexed by the CDC’s odd habit of singling out folks who keep chickens as pets. I can’t recall seeing anything like “do not cuddle cats” going around from the CDC, even though cats groom themselves with saliva and are full of bacteria that does make humans sick. Same with dogs. Both animals also come into regular contact with feces, so it’s not like chickens really carry any more harmful bacteria than the more common household pets.

My immune system likes to just not-work-well sometimes but I’ve never contracted any illness from my chickens, and I probably kiss/cuddle them much more than the cats or dogs.

What’s with the anti-chicken mindset? Just wash your hands after handling them, like you should with any animal, anyways.

it originated from a current issue with salmonella. but like you said, if you follow basic cleanliness procedures you should be ok
